Frequently Asked Questions

  • Medical weight loss refers to a weight management program supervised by healthcare professionals, which often includes a combination of diet, exercise, behavior modification, and sometimes medications or treatments. It is tailored to the individual’s unique health needs and underlying health issues, and the focus is on achieving sustainable weight loss and improving overall health.

  • Hormone therapy can help balance hormones that affect metabolism, hunger, and fat storage. For example, thyroid hormone imbalances, insulin resistance, or cortisol dysregulation can contribute to weight gain. Hormone therapy aims to restore these hormones to optimal levels, potentially making it easier to lose weight and improve energy levels. However, hormone therapy is just one aspect of a comprehensive weight loss plan.

  • The benefits of medical weight loss include:

    • Personalized plans tailored to your medical history and needs

    • Monitoring and support by trained professionals

    • The use of prescription medications (if necessary) to help with weight loss

    • Enhanced safety with professional guidance

    • Improved long-term results and maintenance

  • When prescribed and monitored by a healthcare professional, weight loss medications can be safe and effective for some individuals. These medications are typically used in conjunction with diet, exercise, and behavioral changes. Your doctor will assess your medical history and current health to determine if weight loss medications are appropriate for you.

  • The timeline for results varies by individual, depending on factors like metabolism, adherence to the program, and whether weight loss medications are used. On average, patients may see gradual weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week, with significant changes becoming noticeable within the first few months.

  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) involves supplementing or replacing hormones that the body may be lacking, such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, or thyroid hormones. HRT is commonly used during menopause, andropause, or to address other hormonal imbalances. It can help improve energy, mood, and metabolism, and may also support weight loss in some individuals.

  • Yes, hormone therapy can help with menopause-related weight gain by addressing hormonal imbalances, particularly the decline in estrogen, which can contribute to fat storage. By balancing hormones, HRT may help improve metabolism, reduce stubborn belly fat, and restore energy levels. However, HRT is typically used as part of a comprehensive weight management plan.

  • Good candidates for hormone therapy are typically individuals who:

    • Are experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalances, such as weight gain, fatigue, hot flashes, mood swings, or reduced libido.

    • Are in menopause, andropause, or dealing with conditions like hypothyroidism or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

    • Have not found relief from lifestyle changes or other treatments.

A thorough evaluation by a healthcare provider is necessary to determine if hormone therapy is right for you.

  • Yes, hormone therapy can benefit both men and women, although the types of hormones used differ. For women, HRT is commonly used to balance estrogen and progesterone, especially during menopause. For men, testosterone replacement therapy may be recommended if they have low testosterone levels, which can affect energy, mood, and metabolism.

  • Signs of a hormonal imbalance may include:

    • Unexplained weight gain or difficulty losing weight

    • Fatigue, even after adequate sleep

    • Changes in mood or anxiety

    • Hot flashes or night sweats (in women)

    • Decreased libido

    • Thinning hair

    • Poor sleep

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it's a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for testing and evaluation.

  • Yes, hormone therapy can significantly improve energy levels and mood by restoring balanced hormone levels. For example, addressing a deficiency in estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone can help alleviate symptoms like fatigue, irritability, and mood swings.

  • Our programs are available both in-person and online. To make things easier, many services, like consultations and lab work, can be done via Telehealth and at-home phlebotomy.

  • At this time, I do not bill insurance but you’re welcome to use your HSA or FSA funds for certain components of the program. Labs are included in the program cost.

  • A bioimpedance scale is a device that uses a small, safe electrical current to measure the resistance (impedance) of body tissues. By analyzing how the current flows through the body, it estimates key body composition metrics such as body fat percentage, muscle mass, water content, and bone density. These scales are commonly used in health and fitness settings to track changes in body composition over time. I use the brand InBody Composition Scale.

  • Weight loss injections typically involve medications that help promote fat loss, suppress appetite, or improve metabolism. One common type is GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g., semaglutide), which mimic a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar, reduce hunger, and slow down stomach emptying. These injections are often used alongside a healthy diet and exercise to support sustainable weight loss, and they work by helping the body burn fat more effectively while reducing cravings.Item description
